Eastern Abutment nears Completion

The restoration and critical repair works are nearly complete. The image shows the newly restored parapet wall on the eastern abutment (Awsworth end). The rickety wooden fence has gone and beautiful new walls have been erected using reclaimed materials where possible. The abutment was in a chronic state of disrepair. Teams of workers from Ackroyds worked in some appalling conditions to rebuild these walls to their original specification.  Our thanks go to the contractors; to Historic England, the principal funders of the restoration works and to all other donors who have supported the remarkable transformation of the structure. As you can see from the image above, it looks absolutely amazing.
