The Viaduct welcomes Kimberley WI
Seventeen members of the Kimberley Women’s Institute were met by Ian Potter and Tina Corden when they visited the viaduct today for a guided tour.
The route took them from the nature reserve car park down Newtons Lane to the footpath access on the right hand side; then along the path to the area below the viaduct where we stopped and Tina gave a brief history of the viaduct and the project, followed by a Q&A.
We then left the viaduct along the public footpath to the newly installed footbridge which crosses the Erewash Valley rail line where we had a photo opportunity. Taking the Derbyshire County Council footpath we went through Bennerley Woodland to the Erewash Canal towpath which we followed in a westerly direction to The Bridge Inn.
We took the bridleway under the railway and crossing the Nutbrook we got to the carpark at Naptha House kennels, at this point we proceeded along the former Nottingham Canal to the viaduct viewing point for another photo opportunity.
We then continued along the canal to reach our start point at the nature reserve carpark.
Distance walked was 2.02 miles, route taken is below.
