Closure of Railway Footbridge near Bennerley Viaduct.

As from Wednesday this week (wc 12-9-16), the Bennerley Railway footbridge which takes you to Bennerley Viaduct from the Erewash Canal will be closed for safety reasons. (pictures attached) It will be closed until a new footbridge is installed and this is likely to be  some time away.  As this is the main route to access the viaduct on foot, the closure will have some implications for us.

Firstly, we usually meet at the Bridge Inn for workdays. This  Saturday 17th September we will be having a workday clearing vegetation from under the viaduct to enable the bridge engineers to conduct a condition survey during  the following week.

Could I suggest that if you are coming to the work party, you make your way to the viaduct directly. (We will NOT be assembling at The Bridge Inn).  If you are driving, you could park at Newton’s Lane car park and walk up to the viaduct. Alternatively, I have the key to the barrier of the small  road which leads up to the viaduct from Newtons Lane. I will open this up at 9:30am on Saturday morning and you will be able to park next the viaduct.

The closure may also have implications for you if you were planning to visit the viaduct.
