Eastern abutment nears completion
The restoration and critical repair works are nearly complete. On the eastern abutment (Awsworth end), the rickety wooden fence has been replaced by beautiful new walls, erected using reclaimed materials where possible.
The abutment was in a chronic state of disrepair, so teams of staff from Ackroyds worked in sometimes appalling conditions to rebuild these walls to their original specification.
Our thanks go to the contractors; to Historic England, the principal funders of the restoration works and to all other donors who have supported the remarkable transformation of the structure.
